What makes an artist? For Cynthia Webb, it was the early influence of her creative family and the inspiration of world travel. Born in Venezuela during one of her father's business assignments, Cynthia has lived in Acapulco, Australia, Singapore and London, where she participated in her first formal jewelry class.
Her family roots are in Texas, where she attended high school and the University of Houston. She graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and worked in her profession in Texas and California. Growing up, summers were spent in historic Chautauqua, NY, with its charming cottages and emphasis on the arts.
In 1992 she combined her love of collecting and creating ornaments and her artistic talents to open Cynthia Webb Designs. She lives in San Diego, CA , which she operates with her husband and sons.
"I'm inspired through the creation of art that tugs on one's heart strings. I hope to remind each of us of that special occasion, person or place we connect with in our past or present lives; to elevate our spirituality, as well as our sensitivity and love for those who make us what we are today and what we hope to represent tomorrow."
Each design begins as an inspiration, carefully carved form jeweler's wax, then signed and titled by the artist. The original is cast and a mold is made from which duplicate pieces can be made. Over time, each piece comes to life with its own identity as it is created in the warm natural glow of fine pewter, and hand finished by artisans in the USA. With its lower melting temperature, pewter is cast directly into the rubber molds, the pieces are then individually hand finished, oxidized and polished. The pewter has a thin lacquer coating applied to prevent further oxidation.
