I was born into a family of Russian artists and became its third generation. My grandfather was the famous Soviet artist Alexander Sokolov, professor at the Repin Academy of Arts (1918-1973), my father was a photographer and graphic artist, my mother was an illustrator. Having received a good academic education in St. Petersburg (specialty - fashion design, painting and drawing), I followed the path of interior design. Professional interior designer, former member of the Union of Designers of St. Petersburg. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and increasing repression within the country, as well as persecution of LGBTQ+ people by the authorities, I was forced to flee Russia, leaving my entire life behind. Pittsburgh has become my new home, and I am just learning to be a part of it, to feel its heartbeat. The bridges of Pittsburgh connect my current life and memories of my hometown of St. Petersburg, which has always been the cultural capital of Russia, a city of bridges and canals - the “Venice of the North.” Now Pittsburgh gives me strength and inspiration to move forward and create new paintings.
