sirofchuck studios - "Naturally Inspired"

Picture
Picture
Paul Sirofchuck is hands-on
from start to finish.

Working with wood, for me, is not an occupation but a way of life. As an architect, I have a passion for the exploration of design and construction, finding inspiration in the beauty of nature that surrounds my studio in the woods of Western Pennsylvania, where I have lived and worked for more than 25  years.  I continually experiment with organic shapes in a sculptural approach, often using figured slabs and burls as “jewels,” creating a setting for them, much as a jeweler does with a diamond or ruby. I allow the spirit of each piece of this living material to be recreated through my artistic vision.

I select and work each piece of wood myself, starting with harvesting trees down to final sanding and hand-rubbed oil finish. My work reflects the elegant union of rawness and refinement, crafted using traditional joinery techniques including hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon and frame and panel construction. The uniqueness of each piece of wood is integral to my work. I strive not to obscure the essence of the material - the fact that it is wood - giving it and the patterns and quirks that define it, prominence in the design.

Paul Sirofchuck's original "Stingray Stool," first created in 1998, has become a cherished collectible by many of his clients. It is still available in 3 heights at Main Exhibit Gallery in Ligonier, PA, as is the newer version, "Tallback Stingray Stool."

Consultation and custom design commissions

The one-of-a-kind nature of my furniture lends itself to commissions. I do not, however, create work based on someone else's drawings or designs. To commission a piece, contact us at our studio or gallery. When leaving a message, please include your name, phone number (text number) and email address.

The Process
We can meet at my studio or at Main Exhibit Gallery and Art Center in Ligonier, PA for a free initial consultation about the work you are interested in commissioning. If you are unable to meet in person, we can discuss your project over the phone or by email. You can provide me with dimensions, wood preferences, even photos of the space where you intend to place your piece.

With this information I will develop a design for your project. I charge a $300 initial design fee, which includes development of one concept with two revisions and a meeting to present the design. If you are unable to meet, I will send you designs.  Designs are either drafted or in model form, are copyrighted and remain the property of Paul Sirofchuck. You may keep a copy of the design for reference. Models are returned to my studio. If you require additional revisions beyond the first two, they will be billed at $85 per hour. The design fee is deducted from your total if you proceed with the project.

After you have approved the design and paid a deposit, your project will be put on my schedule.  Once production begins, the length of time required to complete your project will depend upon its complexity. I will keep you informed about my progress during the crafting or your piece. If you are in the area, we can arrange a visit to my studio while your piece is being made.

Payment
I require a 30%-50% deposit to hold your place in my schedule and begin your project. The balance is due upon completion of the piece, either upon delivery or prior to shipping. The deposit is non-refundable once I have started building the project. I accept personal checks and cash. If necessary, I can accept credit cards transactions through Main Exhibit Gallery.

Delivery and Storage
Delivery is free within a 15-mile radius of Ligonier, PA.  Other deliveries are billed per mile (to be determined) or we can quote a packing/shipping charge.  If a piece requires installation, additional installation charges will apply. I am unable to store larger completed projects. If you are not able to accept a piece when it is completed, I will contact you to discuss off-site storage at your expense.

Warranty
I guarantee my work to be free of defects in material and workmanship. Please understand that wood is a natural material and will contain color and texture variations, grain irregularities, etc.  These qualities are inherent to the material and are not considered defects. Wood is also sensitive to extreme environmental changes, such as high heat and damp conditions, especially UV light from the sun. I do not guarantee against wear caused by normal us or failure caused by misuse or neglect, or discoloration resulting from spills, water marks and UV light exposure.  Chairs and stools are not meant to be used for climbing or as ladders.
