In this six-week class, Alexis Dillon, an experienced potter and retired high school ceramics instructor, covers basic throwing and glazing techniques. Students learn how to make cups, bowls and other vessels, how to alter thrown pieces, how to make and attach handles and lidded vessels. Class time includes informal discussion, demonstration and hands-on instruction. This is strictly a pottery wheel class. Slab work will not be explored in this class. We feel it takes several sessions to grasp the art of throwing and centering. Extra class times for practice will be arranged with students at first meeting. These are free. Instruction is from 11 am -1 pm. The last hour is to continuing working, finishing and clean up.
The last session will cover basic glazing of your fired pots. Registration includes all tools you will need for class, one bisque firing and one glaze firing. Clay is purchased for $18 per 25 lbs and is yours to keep. Leftover clay is to be taken home on last day of class. Classes are limited to 7 students, ensuring a high level of individual attention, and are reserved on a first-paid basis.
If you cancel the week before class starts up until the day before, we will issue a refund IF WE CAN FILL YOUR SPACE. Sorry, we cannot refund money once classes have started. *
In the event the class is cancelled, your payment will be refunded.
