Alexis Dillon has been photographing the world for over 30 years, specializing in infrared images, and has received multiple awards at local and national shows. Using a variety of formats -- 35 mm, 2-1/4, panorama, Polaroid and digital infrared cameras. She often hand colors and tones her images. She has long been fascinated by the invisible as well as the visible and infrared film with its dense filtration is the perfect tool for the job. With special handling, Infrared film records the spectrum of light above the red scale. It is also affected by factors such as heat, humidity, and elevation. The infrared radiation inherent in all living matter provides the basis of her work, which articulates the ethereal and timeless character of the medium and the message.
As a multi-talented artist, Alexis is also gifted at ceramics, from slab-building to wheel-throwing. She is known for experimenting with glazes and creating large vessels, such as pitchers and lidded vessels. She also shares her prowess in pottery as an instructor right here at Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center! Check out "Art Classes" for her current offerings. Alexis is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Visual Arts & Photography instruction. She is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh , Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and the Silver Eye Center for Photography. She taught art and photography in a public high school for 30 years and now is concentrating on her own work and teaching at local art centers. |
