" I have two Bachelors and one Masters degrees, none of which have anything to do with business or art! I am reminded of Proverbs 19:21: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” That makes me smile, too.
God started His plan for me by first blessing me with my loving, supportive husband, Jim. He did not demand I contribute to the household income (even though he put me through two of the three degrees!). Together, we decided I would stay home to raise our daughter Shannon and to volunteer the rest of my time.
God has stretched and challenged me ever since to walk and grow in His plan, continually sending me places and work I would never have chosen on my own. I’m not a risk-taker and a total wimp when it comes to critters and creatures. I’m also a detail-oriented organizer, and control freak. So God sent me places where critters abounded and where I had no control – as a Red Cross volunteer on disaster assignments. I learned how to cling to Him to get through the day. He provided everything I needed to accomplish the work set before me. I was living proof of 2 Corinthians 3:5 “our adequacy comes from God”.
Then, enter calligraphy adventure: He’s shown me again how to rely on Him in alien territory, but now there is the added lesson: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Cor 12:9. And my weaknesses are profound in this art and business world! It is by His grace alone that I am able. God has done amazing things with willing but not so skillful hands and He has guided me step by step through the business world.
How Faithfull Calligraphy and its designs were and are born, speak to His continued guidance and provision. I have written down some of the stories of this…to help me remember how He has brought me to where I am today: from simple calligraphy with a few accents like a flower – to complete paintings that illustrate His Word. The more I put to paper, the more amazed I am at what He has done. This is God’s adventure and I am privileged to be along for the ride. It’s like a roller coaster where I’m hanging onto God’s coattails for dear life! There have been many ups and downs, but because the adventure and the Plan are His, whatever happens is OK. When you take the “me, me, me” out of it, it’s amazing what He can do…
